History

We have plenty of history here in Westminster. Our original lots were laid out by William Winchester in 1764. Explore our Downtown District, take a walking tour, ghost tour or just explore our rich past.

Corbit's Charge took place here in Westminster on June 29, 1863. Elements of the Union First Delaware Cavalry engaged the vanguard of the cavalry division of the Confederate Army of Northern Virginia under Major General J.E.B. Stuart. Though thoroughly lacking in experience and vastly outnumbered, companies C and D of the Delaware regiment, about 90 men in all, rode to meet the head of the rebel column of 5000 horsemen.

Plus, we are minutes from Gettysburg, Lancaster, Baltimore and Washington, DC; so plan to stay a few extra days!
